Homework - 1/4 & Volunteer Opportunity

Reading - 20 Minutes
Spelling - 5x each
Math - Workbook pages 69 to 70

****HELLO CORNERSTONE FAMILIES****

Welcome Back!!

Our Softball Clean Up/Shape Up Day is back on the calendar! Several of you volunteered services before the date change, and we are hoping you will step up once again.

Here are the details....

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

***SOFTBALL FIELD CLEAN UP/SHAPE UP DAY***
THIS SATURDAY, 1/8, 9AM
Spring Softball Season is just around the corner and there is lots to be done to provide our athletes with everything they need to have a great season!

This request is for dedicated workers, a trailer for trash/debris, yard and lawn equipment (rakes, weed eater, shovels, riding mower) a pressure washer, seed or sod, fertilizer, paint brushes. The electrical receptacle box needs repair, the field sprinkler needs to be fixed, the bleachers and shed need to be painted, secure the foul poles, pull the weeds...you get the idea!!

These hard working volunteers will also need some lunch, so if you can help the Cornerstone Softball Team get their field in shape, in any capacity, please get back to me!

Please Remember: You must be ADDitions approved to participate in this Volunteer Opportunity and earn Volunteer Hours. If you have submitted an application that is pending approval, please call the ADDitions Office directly to check your status: 407-317-3323

Letter from Mr. Smith

Parents,

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will begin playing the recorder in February. Each student will need their own recorder. I will be glad to purchase one for your child if you would like. The cost for each recorder will be $5.00. I will begin collecting money for the recorders Monday, January 3rd.

If you choose to purchase one for your child, please make sure it is a three piece recorder of good quality. The three piece recorders are easier to clean and produce a better quality sound. I would recommend you purchase a Jean Baptiste or Yamaha soprano recorder. Please do not purchase recorders from Dollar Stores, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target or toy stores. They do not produce the same sound as better quality recorders.

While playing the recorder, students will begin reading music on the staff. They will be working on counting rhythms, learning note names, key signatures, and breath control. Playing an instrument is a very important concept to learn in music. It allows for a hands on and visual approach to learning basic music skills. The recorder is one of the simplest instruments to play and gives students a quick sense of accomplishment.

Thanks again to all the students who participated in our Holiday Musical Snow Biz. Everyone was extremely impressed with your performance. I am very proud of each and every student. A special thank you to all the soloist and drama cast for going the extra mile to learn your special parts. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Break.

Keep on Singing,
Mr. Don Smith
