Parents,
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will begin playing the recorder in February. Each student will need their own recorder. I will be glad to purchase one for your child if you would like. The cost for each recorder will be $5.00. I will begin collecting money for the recorders Monday, January 3rd.
If you choose to purchase one for your child, please make sure it is a three piece recorder of good quality. The three piece recorders are easier to clean and produce a better quality sound. I would recommend you purchase a Jean Baptiste or Yamaha soprano recorder. Please do not purchase recorders from Dollar Stores, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target or toy stores. They do not produce the same sound as better quality recorders.
While playing the recorder, students will begin reading music on the staff. They will be working on counting rhythms, learning note names, key signatures, and breath control. Playing an instrument is a very important concept to learn in music. It allows for a hands on and visual approach to learning basic music skills. The recorder is one of the simplest instruments to play and gives students a quick sense of accomplishment.
Thanks again to all the students who participated in our Holiday Musical Snow Biz. Everyone was extremely impressed with your performance. I am very proud of each and every student. A special thank you to all the soloist and drama cast for going the extra mile to learn your special parts. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Break.
Keep on Singing,
Mr. Don Smith
